Nor is she a glamour queen who knows how to get her way through youth, beauty, and sexual wiles. Anna Pigeon is not Nancy Drew grown up and gone to college. Her NPS bosses are usually part of the problem, and her stories are not without plenty of sex and violence. Her painstaking investigations naturally generate anger, bureaucratic pain, rage, suspicion, false leads, and counter attacks by the murderer, which put her life into some of the most harrowing jeopardy I’ve ever seen characters get into. After many evasive tactics by the murderer, Anna discovers who among many interesting likely suspects is the fiendish killer. Anna just happens to run into mysterious deaths in every park she is assigned to and spends the rest of each book fer reting out that the victims were indeed murdered and by whom.
Her heroine is park ranger Anna Pigeon-tough, fortyish, tenacious widow/law enforcement specialist.
